Saving Money On Medical Care

As we all know the prices are going up but we are still making the same amount of money as we were years ago.

Things have became so tight that some of us are taking on more than one job to make ends meet and live a nice but not rich life.

I do like getting the good things in life so I look for ways to save here and there and never settle for less than the nest on most things. Even  on medical care.

I do get my flu shot each year and that saves tons of money because I am not sitting in the E.R. because I have a fever of 103° and I cannot breathe, then the prescription medication I have to buy, the over the counter medication I bought and I tried before heading to the hospital....... and last losing time at work = Money not coming in.

Today was Clinic day at the health department - Flu Shots without the wait of making appointments.

Now how did I save money by getting this shot at the health department?

They only charge $5.00! So I saved $45.00!!!!

How?

I go to the city/ county health care clinic because its cheaper than other doctors and based on your income so its a charge of $25.00 to be seen by the doctor, BUT they also charge $25.00 for the flu shot so I would be paying $50.00 and all I needed was the flu shot.

By using the clinic day at the health department I did not have to sit in a waiting room filled with sick people for hours either, and sure enough you know I could have caught something.

I saved time and money and used my head at prevention.

While I was there I also brought the person I take care of so he could get the flu shot and avoid the doctors office and sick people as he has enough breathing problems as it is.

So before you leave the house to go get the flu shot at the doctors office, make a few calls and you`ll be surprised at how much money you will save.

Shopping With Coupons - I Saved Over $35

Shopping With Coupons - I Saved Over $35

This week is a good week to save with coupons while shopping the store buy one get one free sale. This is called extreme coupon shopping. Using coupons on items that are already one half off each, you get it free or dirt cheap. This weekend I made money on a several coupons, let me explain.

Grocery store : Publix - Double coupons .50 and under.

Since a new kitten picked me I figured I best start looking at those cat food deals along with the dog food deals. (no dog food on sale this week at Publix)

The deal is Purina Friskies cat food 3.15 pound bags $4.59 each - on sale buy one get one free - Used $1.00 off one manufacturer coupon for each = $1.30 / $1.29 - Bought four bags $5.18 after sale and coupons. A savings of $13.18!

New York Bakery Texas toast $2.87 -  on sale buy one get one free - Used $.50 off one manufacturer coupon, that doubled to $1.00 for each item  = .44/ .43 I bought two and that is a savings of $3.74!

New York bakery Croutons $1.69 -on sale buy one get one free - Used $.50 off one manufacturer coupon, that doubled to $1.00 for each item  = FREE AND I made .15 off two bags and .16 on another for a total of .46!

Grand total before sale and coupons was $49.22
I paid : 11.58
sale tax 2.11
____________
       $13.69

A savings of $35.53! that is how I like to stock up using coupons.

Walmart discontinues Price Matching

After working all day Saturday I went out to dinner and while in town I went shopping for a few things. Walmart being the last place I stopped to pick up a few things.

First stop was Dollar General because it was $5 off $25 Saturday and I needed to get a few things for the house that I did not have coupons for. I am home canning a lot more this year so I am making sure I have canning jars to get the job done, any savings is a blessing and $5.00 is a good coupon.

First transaction :

Golden Harvest Canning jars - One Pint and two Half pint home canning jars- $7.95

Golden Harvest jar seals - $1.75

Used $5.00 off $25.00 store coupon

Total before coupons was - $28.20

I paid $22.66

(Note : The store coupon is before tax so they also adjust down after the coupon has been applied)

I had intentions of buying three of the 12 packs of Diet Pepsi for $10 but they were out so I had to redo the game plan, right there in the store. With this transaction being mostly for Tony I searched out things he needed.

Second transaction :

1 - Angel soft toilet paper- 12 double rolls $5.00 on sale $4.75 - Used $1.00 manufacturer coupon

1- Dollar General brand paper plates - $4.00

2 - Hunts ketchup - $1.00 each

1 - Miracle grow plant food - $5.50

5 - Spray Paint - $1.25 each

3 - Low dose aspirin - $1.00 each

Used $5.00 off $25.00 store coupon and $1.00 mft. coupon for angel soft toilet paper.

Total before coupons was - $28.05

I paid $21.55

(Note : The store coupon is before tax so they also adjust down after the coupon has been applied)

Saved $11.00 at Dollar General.

Next was to Walmart, Tony wanted a new SD card for one of his gadgets and I wanted a bag of flour. But since I did not get the Diet Pepsi at Dollar General I planned to price match, or ad match, and I was told " we do not price match/ ad match anymore, we have savings catcher, if its cheaper anywhere else we will pay it back to you."

I put the three 12 packs of diet Pepsi that cost $4.75 each up on the counter and asked for them to be removed.

This kid gave me a weird look and I said " I do not have nearly $15.00 to spend on each of these so I will just go to a Dollar General and buy them, because I do have $10 to spend on them."

I know many people that do use the savings catcher but I do not buy  much at Walmart, and there are many times I do not have $15.68 to spend and then I have to wait to be repaid and then I have to spend that money at Walmart. I use coupons on an extreme level to buy food items and I can say that the better stores, more expensive and cleaner, have better deals than Walmart on food with buy one get one free sales and they double coupons.

The soft drinks are always on sale each week at CVS, Walgreens, Rite-aid, Target, Publix, Winn Dixie and Dollar General ( lets face it, a Dollar General is every five miles!) there is no need for me to wait on Walmart to gift card the money back, I will just know not to shop at Walmart as far as price matching when it IS cheaper to just stop at the other stores that are not out of the way to visit, Plus I still have my cash in my pocket to spend wherever I want to spend it.

I have to give a hand to Walmarts staff for coming up with this idea of getting paid back with Walmart gift cards. Why? So they can continue to take your money and the other stores get less business.

BUT.....

Then, there are people like me who prefer to get cheaper prices right now with what cash I have in my wallet.

Shopping With Coupons - I saved $70

I am an extreme coupon user but I have been laying low for a while to use up some of my stockpile so that it doesn`t take over my house and life. As a new year resolution to "shop less and use what I have" was it and its been six months and I have been accomplishing my goal. But there are times when I run out of things I am NOT accustomed to not having since I began to extreme coupon five years ago.

I had even stopped buying the Sundays paper for coupons and I stopped trading with friends, but that is over for the time being so I can restock things I need. This week I bought the newspapers for the coupons,However, I was printing a couple coupons here and there for stuff I was buying.

I had to work this past Saturday so that meant I would be in town and I could take advantage of using a $5.00 off $25.00 competitor coupon at Publix, Plus they had Purina one dog food buy one get one free and I had printed coupons for a couple months for this expensive dog food that my two dogs absolutely loves.

Then I used one of the Dollar General $5.00 off $25.00 at their store for an awesome savings.

First lets review the Dollar General shopping trip :

Golden Harvest Canning jars - Quarts - $8.75, Pint and Half pint -$7.95 - Used two Manufacturer coupons $1.00 off one product.

1- store brand quart freezer bags - $1.00

Used $5.00 off $25.00 store coupon

Total before coupons was - $27.72

I paid $20.72

Not great but savings none the less on items I needed.

Next I did two transactions at Publix - One for me and one for the person with me :

#1 transaction -

Purina one dog food - $8.49 each - On sale buy one get one free - Used $1.50 Manufacturer coupon off each

Used $5.00 off $25.00 competitor coupon

Total before sale and coupons was : $52.96

I paid : $13.52

#2 transaction :

16 Cans of Libby`s canned vegetables - On sale two for $1.19 - Used store coupon buy four get $1.00 off

2- Zantac 30 count boxes- On sale $7.59- used two $5.00 off  Manufacturer coupon

1 - Angel soft toilet paper 12 double rolls - on sale $5.00 - Used $1.00  Manufacturer coupon

Total before sale and coupons was : $43.30

I paid : $12.17

Grand total was - $92.26

Paying for both transactions - $25.69

Savings of $70.57!

Now that is how I like to use coupons and get the things we enjoy the most.
